As a public service to our island community, the Cedar Key Volunteer Fire & Rescue has implemented the Vial of L.I.F.E. (Lifesaving Information For Emergencies) program. The Vial of Life Program is designed to be a voice when you cannot speak for yourself. The vial contains essential medical information about you, so that emergency responders and medical professionals can provide appropriate treatment. If you so choose to participate in the program, you will be provided with a medical history form, vial and L.I.F.E. decal. After completing the medical history form, it should be placed in or on your personal refrigerator. The decal you will receive should be placed on the main entrance door of your home alerting emergency responders that you have medical information stored inside a vial.
This kit is free of charge to the residents of this area to ensure that your vital information is readily available to emergency personnel in the event of an emergency. This kit includes an information sheet, clear plastic bag, 2 Vial of L.I.F.E. decals, as well as vital instructions. The medical form and instructions can also be downloaded and printed from our web site, www.cedarkeyfire.org.
Those interested in having a member of the local Fire Department speak to a group or organization of the L.I.F.E. project and its benefits, please contact a Cedar Key Fire Department member; we will attend to explain the importance of this project. In addition, we plan to explain the importance of having your home or business clearly marked with an address; and I.C.E. (In Case of Emergency) for your personal cell phone.
